Renewable Energy for Advisors
A one day CPD training course providing an introduction to renewable energy technologies for building professionals and energy advisors.
This course is accredited by the Energy Institute.
The focus of the course is on renewable energy systems for onsite heat and power for new and existing buildings. The following technologies are covered: wood heating, ground source heat pumps, solar water heating, wind turbines (small and medium scale), solar electric (photovoltaics).

Who Should Attend?
Those providing advice about sustainable energy solutions for buildings, for example:
- energy and sustainability consultants, sustainability officers, Architects, Building Services Engineers, Surveyors, Engineering consultants
- energy assessors (eg SAP, Code for Sustainable Homes, BREEAM, SBEM)
Delegates will gain the most benefit from the course if they have an understanding of the concepts of energy and power and experience in providing advice about energy use.
Expected Learning Outcomes:
Upon completing this course, it is expected that delegates will:
Be able to identify which renewable energy solutions are most likely to be both appropriate and feasible for their Clients’ applications and to have an understanding of:
- the key factors to be considered when assessing the feasibility of renewable energy systems
- typical system sizes, energy generation, costs, financial returns and carbon savings
- how systems work and some of the main design options currently available
- some of the key issues to be considered when integrating renewable energy systems
- advantages and disadvantages of different renewable energy options
- the context and key drivers affecting specification and implementation of renewable energy systems for buildings
- grants, how to find suppliers and planning issues

Cost
- £250 plus VAT per person (includes course notes, information pack, lunch and refreshments)
- £40 discount available for early booking (for bookings made at least 4 weeks before the course date)
- £10 discount is available for participants traveling by 'sustainable' transport (i.e. bike, train (including taxi to and from stations), bus or bio-fueled / electric / hybrid vehicle), not available in conjunction with early booking discount
Course Details
Arrive from 9.30am for a 10.00am start.
The course will finish at 5.00pm.
Buffet lunch and refreshments will be provided. Directions to the venue will be emailed to course delegates.
